The Process of Building an Extension

To guarantee that the work is done to the highest standard possible when it comes to building an extension in your home, there is a significant possibility that you will want to hire an expert builder.

Even while you may not be directly working on the extension, it is still essential to learn more about how it will be constructed; this is to help give you some idea of what will happen during the project.

Before building an extension...

When you start planning an extension, it is very important to get planning permission from your local council and to hire expert builders to guide you through the process. There is no one size fits all approach to building an extension. The success of your construction journey depends on how effectively you plan and manage it since it will be unique to you and your house. Whether you choose a wrap-around extension or a glazed single or two-storey addition, each extension will have its unique requirements.

However, no matter what your project entails, there are certain crucial aspects to get right, and you can achieve this when you hire the right building company.

So, how is an extension constructed?

Preparation

When constructing an extension, the first thing you need to realise is that the land on which you want to construct it has to be prepared. When the new extension is being constructed, the site will need to be protected, and easy access must be provided. This is so damage is not done to the structure of your existing home.

Groundworks

The groundwork can begin as soon as the area is prepared. This involves demolishing unnecessary structures and clearing the whole.  You will also need to clear the area where the dirt and supplies will be stored during this process.

In addition, gullies will need to be developed to regulate any surface water that may build up.

Foundations

The third step is to lay the foundations. This is the most important step when building an extension. Our builders across Bexhill, Eastbourne, and Hastings will dig out and mark the footings of the extension. This also allows drains to be led out and connected. The damp proofing also has to be installed.

Concrete, hardcore, sand, a damp-proof membrane, insulation, and other materials will be used to build the foundation floor.

Adding the roof

The expansion roof's structure will be constructed using trusses and gable walls. Before the whole roof is prepared for tiling, the vents, felting, and battens may be added after this is in place. The fitting of guttering, downpipes, and flashing is the last step taken when it comes to adding a roof to your new extension.

Finishing touches

The final components to be added to the extension are the windows and doors; after that, any alterations to the existing walls may be done before the extension is prepared to be merged with the rest of your house. The area may then have the final touches put to it to make a stunning and well-planned room in your house. This includes any electrical wiring, fitting new appliances and cabinets, and cleaning it out, so it is ready for you to use.
