Types of Kitchen Extensions

Kitchen extensions are similar to any other extensions and come in a variety of sizes and forms. Choosing which type to go for heavily depends on the type of property you have, your budget, and your needs and requirements.  If you are unsure which type of kitchen extension to go for, we hope this blog will help you make your decision.

What are the different types of kitchen extensions?

Pitched Roof Kitchen Extension

If your kitchen is positioned towards the rear of your property, then a pitched roof extension is a great option.  They look great with older, more conventional property types and are a great way to preserve your home's original look. They have a high ceiling, allowing your kitchen to appear larger than it is. This is ideal especially if you are regularly hosting dinners as it gives you the space you have been looking for.

Flat Roof Kitchen Extension

This type of extension is ideal for one-story homes. When properly installed, they maintain a reasonable cost while giving the outside of your home a modern appearance. They need less structural work when compared to other types of extensions, therefore it should cost less to provide the same amount of room. However, keep in mind that this sort of roof will need more frequent maintenance and that the height of the ceiling will be lower.

Sky Light Kitchen Extension

A skylight may either be used in combination with another extension you are getting done, such as a rear or side extension and can be used to make your house seem larger. Skylights are an affordable way to fill your kitchen with natural light, which may make it seem larger. It drastically changes the look of your kitchen as it allows you to open up the kitchen and dining area.

Orangery Kitchen Extension

Orangeries are brick buildings with huge windows and a glass lantern roof that may be utilised to expand your kitchen on a budget. Because of the extensive glass used in their construction, they let a lot of natural light into your house and may enhance your sense of connection to your outside space—even during the winter.

If you decide to add an orangery to your kitchen, be sure to invest in sufficient ventilation to prevent excessive condensation and make sure your glazing doesn't produce a greenhouse effect that makes your kitchen too hot in the summer and too chilly in the winter.
